Longboards

Longboard history:

Longboards became popular in the 1950's just shortly after the surfing surge in the 40's and 50's. There is some controversy as to where the longboard was invented. Some say that it started in the same place the surfing boom hit and that is Hawaii. Others will argue that the first longboards where built in California where there are long rolling hills to ride and experience the thrill. Whatever the case, longboard was definitely an inspiration of surfing. Longboards were invented with the intent of getting the surfing thrill on land.

Longboards have gone through many transformations over the years from wheels, trucks, decks, types of material and more. Currently boards are made out of wood, bamboo, or composite materials. The main wood used is birch and maple. Bamboo is also very popular and fiberglass and carbon fiber are often used in the mixture to reduce weight and add flexibility.
